A Week of Healthy Salads that Are Delish

We get it, a story on a week of pizzas may pull in the SEO, but salads packed with delicious, healthy ingredients is enough to put your pizza deliveries on hold. Salads are nutrition powerhouses, as raw vegetables are high in nutrients, vitamins, fiber and promote weight loss. They also can be fulfilling meals when you add healthy proteins like seeds, nuts, grilled chicken or fish. Avocado is another substantive choice, which is high in fiber, potassium and increases HDL or good cholesterol levels. And for those who rather use their stoves on occasion, salads are a quick, natural meal that requires minimal prep work.

Week of Healthy Salads

Creative add-ons: In the season of salad weather, be inspired by choices that could change the way you eat. A salad does not have to be strictly green but top with your favorite foods like nuts, dried fruit and colorful vegetables, which will boost its nutritional value.

Color of the Month – Gold Of Course

So you may not be headed to the Olympics to compete for a golden medal but you can some add some luster to your wardrobe. Gold has always been the standard of wealth, which doesn’t necessarily equate to taste–think Donald in the Ivana years. The precious metal has an assured place in every fashion season when styled correctly.

Golden rule: Avoid dressing in head-to-toe gold, make it subdued with a few gilded accessories, softened with another neutral color to activate that winning look.

The Best Whites of the Season

There’s a reason why brides wear white, apart from the kind of symbolism that can excite a lit professor, it assures her of being the most beautiful woman on her day. The simplicity of the color lends itself to accessories, like bold jewelry, shoes or bags. White is also a way of shifting a style when you’re feeling depleted from your wardrobe’s offerings. And, yes, you can wear white after Labor Day.

Classic white throws attention to accessories.

How to Avoid Becoming a Stereotypical Housewife

Hauling the contents of your Manhattan apartment to the suburbs to raise a family doesn’t mean you have to leave your city identity behind. It seems that every few years there’s a hyped movie covering the scenario. The iconic Stepford Wives, which was written in 1972 and then became a film in 1975, portrays Joanna Eberhart, a New York City photographer who moves to Connecticut with her young family. Joanna is disturbed by the conformed lifestyle and questions if the wives are robots. This emblem of a period has endured by referring to Stepford wives, or living in Stepford, as the archetypal housewife who becomes a casualty of suburban living. A little over twenty years later is Ang Lee’s equally rich film The Ice Storm, which is also partially filmed in New Canaan, sealing its stature as ground zero of housewife breeding. The suburban stereotype analogue moves to the present with Netflix’s miniseries “Sex/Life,” which is far less nuanced than its predecessors. (Translation: a bit trashy). The storyline follows every cliche involving Billie, a young mother who yearns for her city life and the hunky bad boy who resides there, over the ho hum existence in her hometown of Greenwich. It doesn’t help that her handsome husband Cooper seems unable to shake everything his tie-wearing corporate life comes with. The first episode is titled “The Wives Are in Connecticut” to reinforce the theme.

Make gardening a positive experience if you enjoy it.

So why is the Connecticut housewife being blatantly labeled? The short answer is affluence and boredom. As a mother who lives in a commuter Connecticut town, the housewives are everywhere. They have significant income to spend on massive cars, customize cubby rooms to organize their kids endless gear, and participate in the town’s variety of fitness facilities and blow bars. Though for those who are reluctant to participate in the coterie, follow this 12 step program to stay aligned with your life before suburbia.
