Dieters Beware – Create a Kitchen You’ll Never Want to Leave

If there’s one place to be adventurous, it’s in the kitchen. Current designs are those pretty kitchens that follow a formula of white tile and stainless appliances that are so high tech, with a few clicks to your Smartphone they may be able to make you breakfast. For other tastes, kitchens are like summer and Christmas, there is something comforting in the nostalgic. Merging what’s new with the classics is always our go-to method, throw in some personal touches, and you’ll achieve the ultimate kitchen.

Create a kitchen of distinction by adding bold colors and unexpected details.

How to Do It

Research: Begin by scouring the web for kitchen styles that garner your likes. Swipe the images onto a mood board, analyze, and create an unified theme based on your favorite selections

Sourcing Product: Review what you currently own to see if it supports the design direction you are looking to take. For new product, compose a list of resources found by the kitchens you liked and do a search on the web. Do further searches on your favorite home decor sites, which may have a similar item.

Personalize: As your kitchen begins to take shape, bring in those details that speak to you such as dishes, art or food and flowers that add to the decor.

Color: While white kitchens are safe and will achieve a calm, palatable space, add some color for a bolder direction. For this Hamptons home, yellow is the leitmotif that supports the spirit of the overall aesthetic. Rather than use the color in a permanent way through painted walls or permanent fixtures, we softly weaved in the shade with accessories, art and stools.

Open shelving is both functional and designed. Intersperse white pieces to keep the style from looking too manic.

Open Shelving: Utilitarian pieces that please the eye achieves a look while making everyday items more accessible. Group favorite pieces that connect to the kitchen’s style and begin to edit. Less is more, so pull out any pieces that muddle the effect. White is the great balancer, intersperse to achieve a less manic effect. Find a few unique pieces that are unique and take the look into designed territory.

Drama Pieces: Special tea canisters by Palace de Thé are unique, unexpected and create an effect like no other, which deserves top shelf placement.

Experimentation: Design is a process that won’t happen on the first go. Test out different looks and see what works, which is all about kitchen creation.
